The Ring of Kerry

Today is the day for Ring of Kerry.  We have been so blessed with wonderful weather days.  We wake up in the morning thinking it is going to be a rainy day, only for it to clear up.  Simply gorgeous!

We stopped in a lovely town named Waterville.  They had a statue of Charlie Chaplin.
Evidently he liked to stay in this town on a regular basis.

Looking back on the village of Waterville

We continued on on the Ring of Kerry

After missing a couple of sites we were looking for, we did manage to locate the Staigue Fort.  This is one of the largest stone forts in Ireland.  It was probably built in the first centuries of AD, but before Christianity came to Ireland.  This was probably the home of either a chieftain or a wealthy landowner.
There is no mortar in the walls which are about 4 feet thick and over 6 feet tall.
The skill that must have gone into these buildings that they are still standing today.

And we continue on the Ring!

This viewpoint was called "Ladies View"

Another site we were able to locate was the Torq Woodlands which we found the Torq Waterfall

I went on to find the top of the falls.  Roger did not know that I was going until he turned
around to see me at the top of the steps.  Oops, a bit of miscommunication.

Our last stop on the Ring was at the Ross Castle.  We did a quick visit because the rain was coming.

We looked forward to spending another evening being entertained by Chappy.  He was there, and fulfilled his roll as host and entertained us well!  We were very sad to say good-bye, but we must be off to Dublin!
