Pervolakian Gorge

Pervolakian Gorge
We drove past this gorge on our way back from Ziros.  We decided we could use a bit of a hike!  We are in the southeast corner of Crete.  There is a Monastery next to it.  Roger read that the walking path was created by the monks walking from the Monastery to the village, Pervolakia, from whence it gets its name.  It is a little about 4 kms, of which we got about a mile and a half into the walk before turning around.
We needed to give proof that Roger was still with me on this trek!

An interesting plant we saw a lot of.  This one in particular is only buds at the moment, but others we saw had the buds bursting into lots of little white flowers.  Quite spectacular!

Some of the sections of our walk made it necessary for us to do a bit of climbing.

The interior of the canyon is spectacular, with high towering walls. The vegetation is quite limited and the landscape is arid and dry. Along the path, there are several points where you have to climb and there are several signs. (Taken from cretanbeaches.com)

We were truly fascinated by the rock formations and caves within the gorge walls.

We took this walk a couple days after hearing the exciting sermon from Jim Speed from the Kirkin of the Tartan service.  We put our twelve rocks in a pile to represent the twelve tribes of Israel.  We took a moment to remember all the glorious and wonderful things God has done for us!

The next day we went to the village of Pervolakia to see where the trail would have
come out had we trekked it all.  It is a lovely village with wonderful views.

All the flowers here are so brilliant in color.

This is where the path would have exited.

Roger does not think this would be up to code in Cobb county.  What do you think?

Ocean front from our trip back to Koutsouras.

These are our last shots of Greece.  Now onto Ireland.  So looking forward to being there.
Blessings to all!
