Porto

We spent two days in Porto, Portugal.  What a wonderful city!  Here is view from our room!

We walked along the border.  Perfect weather, beautiful views!

What gorgeous sunsets!

We drove into the city.  It really reminded us of San Francisco!

These figures were throughout the park.  The one figure looks like he laughed so hard he fell over!

The trees are planted on top of the building!

We loved all the beautiful tile work on the buildings!
Inside this beautiful church

We are also so fortunate to be where the blooms are coming out!!

A Memorial to WWI

Now off to London!

Baiona

We had decided to take a day trip to Vigo, but when we got there, we were a bit overwhelmed by the size of it, so we came back down the coast road and stopped in Baiona.  What a fun town.  We decided we would go back and spend the whole day there walking around and touring the fort.  This town has a lot of history.

On the left you can see a replica of the Caravel ‘Pinta’.
It arrived in Baiona over five centuries ago.

There is also a Spring Well which according to folklore, it supplied to the Caravel ‘Pinta’ prior to its departure from Baiona to Palos on March 11, 1493.  The crew filled the barrels with water manually to last them through their voyage.
We took a picture of this, but alas, I forgot to put the card back in the camera.

Monument of Alfonso IX of Spain- This was built to commemorate the 8th Century of the founding of Baiona as a Royal Village.  It represents Alfonso IX of Spain as the founder, protector and benefactor of Baiona.

This is Monterreal Fort.  The fort is located on the Monte Boi peninsula, also known as Montreal.  This site has been known as theater the past 2000 years as the walled precinct.  Pre-Christian civilization such as the Celts, Phoenicians, and Romans lived here in the past.  And in our era, it has been occupied by many different settlers and suffered a great number of attacks as well as modifications.  In the past the village of Baiona was located here due to ta Royal Privilege issued by the Catholic Kings, pro as to defend itself against the corsair incursions
The peninsula covers an area of 18 hectares and is surrounded by 3 km of crenellated battlement walls dating back from the 11th to 17th centuries.  over the year it has changed ownership many times until 1963.

Center right you can see some statues above the first wall.  This is a monument to the Meeting of the Two Worlds- This was constructed at the wall of Monte Boi, very near the place where the first Native American who died on the Old Continent was buried.  Again, we Roger took lots of wonderful shots of this monument and from the fort as we walked around, but, no card.  I could kick myself.  We had gone back to Baiona on a gorgeous day to walk the fort.  While we walked it we came upon a seagull who basically posed for us.  He was not afraid of us, and we could have probably pet him, which of course, I was tempted, but we wanted the perfect seagull picture.  Ha, ha to me!!

On our way back home!!

Our last morning in A Guarda, Spain.  Looks like a great day to travel!

Had to say goodbye to Little Perrodito!  At least that is what I called him!  What a cutie!

Now we get ready to go to Porto, Portugal, then London!  We will spend a couple days in each place and then.....Yippee!  I get to see Cathy!!  We are going to Kuwait.  What an adventure.

Sending our love to all of you!
