Castro de Santa Tegra

Santa Tecla Settlement

The castro of Santa Tecla (Santa Tegra in Galician) is a Galician castro and an archaeological site located on the edge of Mount Santa Tecla , 341 meters above sea level, in the south - western Galicia end, in the municipality of La Guardia ( Pontevedra ) is a privileged place from which all surrounding dominates the mouth of the Minho . It belongs to the Castro culture , the most emblematic and visited the Galician castros. In several of the stones from the mountain are petroglyphs made 2,000 years before the occupation of the fort.  This settlement had a continuous occupation up to the process of Romanization of Galicia. From that moment a slow process of abandonment began, that could well have been interrupted with temporary sporadic reoccupations in late-Roman times.
