Sacra Couer
There was a church next to the Basilica of Sacra Couer (Sacred Heart). It was very peaceful to walk in this sanctuary and take in all the wonders it held.
Denis
In the third century, St Denis was the Bishop of Paris. He was martyred, along with two other Christians. As mentioned in Notre Dame blog, Denis is said to have picked up his head after being decapitated and walked about six miles, while preaching repentance the entire way.
Joan of Arc
Joan of Arc was nicknamed the "Maid of Orleans" and considered a heroine of France for her role in the Hundred Years War. Joan received visions of messages from Archangel Michael to support Charles VII and recover France from England.
She was sent by Charles to the siege of Orleans as part of a relief mission. The siege was lifted after only nine days, therefore raising Joan's fame, boosting French morale and led to Charles VII's coronation.
She was burned at the stake after being caught by a faction allied with the English and declared guilty of a variety of charges. She was only about 19 years old.
St Genevieve
Saint Genevieve is the patron saint of Paris. She was born in Nanterre and moved to Paris and dedicated herself to a Christian life. In 451, she led a "prayer marathon" that was said to have saved Paris by diverting Attila and his Huns away from the city. She also acted as an intermediary between the city and Childeric I when he conquered the city.
Sacra Couer
The Basilica of Sacre Couer was dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Paris. It is located at the top of Montmarte, the highest point of the city. Construction began in 1875 and was finished in 1914. It was consecrated after the end of WWI in 1919.
The scene around this landmark and the astonishing view.
Eiffel Tower
And our walk back to the apartment from the tower.
What a day of landmarks. We were quite exhausted when we got back to the apartment. We truly have been blessed with great weather while we have been here. Many days I would take my jacket off and walk around in my short sleeves.
